Case history: Galileo

The Galileo drill bit was introduced in the 2000s, when the Join model was the only tungsten carbide product in the Graber catalogue. This product made it possible to acquire invaluable experience in the use of tungsten carbide, even if most customers at the time did not have the infrastructure set up to make use of such products.

THE CUSTOMER’S NEED
A customer, who already had this equipment and who knew of Graber’s experience and its natural predisposition for research and development, asked for work to be done into a new drill bit in tungsten carbide. It was to have outstanding cutting characteristics, be self-centering with low percussion usage, reduce refractory fractures and extend the life of drilling equipment.

RESEARCH and DEVELOPMENT
Taking advantage of many years of experience in producing drill bits and in-depth knowledge of the use of tungsten carbide, following numerous on-site tests, in 2010, the definitive model, called Galileo, was industrialised. Since then, it has been in continuous production without any need to revise it: proof of the design’s excellent quality. Galileo is, without doubt, our most iconic drill bit, difficult to imitate without running into the clumsy copycats placed on the market later, and it is definitely the product that most embodies our vision: research, quality and performance.
